Collection: Handpans

A handpan is a type of percussion instrument that resembles a steel drum but is played with the hands. It is a relatively new instrument, having been developed in the early 2000s. The handpan consists of two metal half-shells that are glued together to form a hollow, resonant body. The top shell, or "ding side," has a central note (ding) surrounded by a series of tone fields or notes arranged in a circular pattern. Each tone field is carefully shaped and tuned to produce a specific pitch when struck with the hands or fingers.
