Tune Your Harp Like a Pro: Easy Tips for Perfect Sound

Step 1: Download the Tuning App

Begin by opening your phone’s App Store and downloading the “insTuner” app. Once downloaded, install it on your device to get started.

C Tuning Reference Scale

Below is a reference guide for tuning your harp based on the number of strings:

  • 19-string: G3 A3 B3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 B4 C5 D5 E5 F5 G5 A5 B5 C6
  • 16-string: G3 A3 B3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 B4 C5 D5 E5 F5 G5
  • 10-string: A3 B3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 B4 C5

Step 2: Open the Tuning App

Once you’ve opened the “insTuner” app, you’ll see the following features:

  • Indicator Area: Tells you whether the sound is sharp, flat, or in tune.
  • Detected Pitch: Displays the note being played (e.g., B3) and its frequency in Hertz (e.g., 246.94Hz).
  • Fine-tuning Range: Helps you see how close the pitch is to being perfectly in tune.
  • Pitch Scale: A chromatic scale for reference while tuning.
  • Settings: Access additional settings through this option.

Note: The default setting is A4=440Hz, which is the international standard pitch. It’s recommended that beginners do not change this setting.

Step 3: Start Tuning

Now, begin tuning your harp by following these guidelines:

  • If the frequency is lower than C4, tighten the string to raise the pitch.
  • If the frequency is higher than C4, loosen the string to lower the pitch.
  • When the app shows that the frequency is exactly C4, the string is in perfect tune.

Repeat this process for each string, adjusting the pitch according to the notes in the reference scale.
